While some might always be cold, others might feel like any temperature you keep the office at is too hot. If you didn’t already know this, OSHA has some standards that businesses should follow when it comes to the temperature of an office space. While this isn’t something that’s mandated, there is a range that OSHA states is safe and ideal for working environments, including office spaces.
In most cases, keeping an office between 68 degrees Fahrenheit and 76 degrees Fahrenheit will be ideal. So while you can go above or below these recommendations, setting your thermostat somewhere in between these numbers will usually prove to be the most comfortable for the vast majority of your staff members.
Make Sure Your HVAC System Is Working Well
In offices where the temperature may not always be comfortable or consistent, the reason this happens is usually either that it’s too expensive to keep the place at a comfortable temperature or the HVAC system you’re using isn’t working well enough for the space.
In the event that you think it’s your HVAC system that’s to blame, you could get a head load calculation done to ensure that the system you’re using is right for the space you have. You could also have an HVAC company come in to see if there are things amiss with your system or ways that you could make your system more efficient. This could also help with the financial aspect too, especially if you’re in a drafty office space.
Allow People What They Need To Be Comfortable
In the event that you aren’t able to keep your office space at a temperature that’s going to be comfortable for everyone, you should then allow people to do what they need in order to keep themselves comfortable.
For some, this might include allowing for the use of space heaters, letting people use small fans at their desks, providing branded blankets or sweatshirts for staff members, and more. As you try your best to keep people comfortable and allow for them to take additional measures if necessary, everyone should be able to maintain a comfortable temperature at work.
